Meet our Employees
“I value connections between people.”
en world’s culture suits me.
Minula Kariyawasam
I joined the company as an associate consultant after graduating from university in 2021. I work in recruitment for foreign-affiliated finance firms, leveraging the finance-related knowledge of business economics and management I learned at university and my strength in speaking multiple languages. I have been a consultant since August 2022. I work closely with companies and job seekers to help create a better future for both parties.
- What are your current duties and job description?
I have been in charge of full-time recruitment support for the financial sector for nearly two years since joining en world.
I mainly support bilingual people in various middle- to high-level positions at investment management companies and securities firms.
- When and why did you join en world?
I joined the company as a new graduate in 2021. I had interviews with many different companies during my job search.
I was attracted to en world because it is a top-class recruiting firm and part of the en Japan Group. However, the most significant factor was en world’s corporate culture of valuing relationships among people.
That was the factor that drove my decision to join en world.
- Why did you choose the recruitment industry for your career at that time?
I originally wanted to work in a finance-related job, so I studied at APU, the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, focusing on business economics, management, and accounting. So, I mainly spoke with finance companies during my job search.
However, I realized during the process that I love engaging with people. That was a turning point in choosing the human resources sector for my career.
In this job, I need to look ahead to the mid- to long-term future of job applicants and client companies to see if I am helping them grow and ensure that those who have changed jobs are succeeding in their new companies.
As someone who loves to connect with people, I wanted most to find a job where I could be involved in the growth of people and companies.
I also realized that en world would allow me to learn practical financial knowledge in my day-to-day work, even without working directly in finance. That was also a factor in my choosing this job.
- Were there any differences in your impressions of the job or the company before and after being hired?
I have not noticed any significant differences before and after joining the company. The value placed on teamwork and interpersonal relationships was tangible after I joined, just as expected based on my interview.
Honestly, I felt uneasy about my work when I was hired because I was unsure what training systems the company had.
I understood the basics required for the job once I started working—including the industry terminology used daily in finance and the roles of each position—thanks to my studies at university. However, I needed more than that in reality.
Nevertheless, my team’s manager and senior consultants helped when I had questions during my work, but I also received help from other team managers who ignored any team or positional boundaries. I was also amazed by the corporate culture, as even the president would kindly answer if I asked him a question.
Entering such an environment eased my concerns and allowed me to begin my career with peace of mind.
- What do you enjoy most about being a recruitment consultant?
I enjoy listening to the issues that client companies are facing and thinking together about who companies need to grow. I like helping job seekers address their problems and designing mid- to long-term careers with them. I find it very rewarding when I can match the right person with the right job and when both parties are happy with the results and trust in my work.
An illustration of when I feel trusted would be when I start working with a job seeker. I begin by asking for details about their jobs and stay involved through multiple interviews until they receive the offer they want.
I receive the joy of helping them get that job and gradually become successful while also building a relationship from the ground up through myriad conversations. They even ask me for non-work-related advice sometimes. Those moments make me really happy, as they prove people’s trust in me.
- What do you find attractive about en world?
First, I have to mention the corporate culture. Working with my team is so easy because we have built a warm, family-like relationship.
A recent example of our comradery is when our team manager ran a marathon; we all went to cheer him on. The appeal is in building friendly, almost familial relationships that will remain even after working here as a professional.
The new flextime system has also made it easier to work here. I can run errands or something in the morning and make up the hours later that day or even later that month. More freedom requires more self-management and responsibility, but the environment is conducive to flexible workstyles.
Finally, I am proud that en world values diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI). We have a multinational workforce, and working with them expands my perspective and helps me to develop more flexible trains of thought as I learn from their diverse approaches.
- Do you have any goals for the future?
I have had a dream since I started at en world to become a world-class recruitment consultant.
To achieve this goal, I always carefully consider the lives of all my candidates and whether changing jobs is a good choice that will lead to a promising future for them and their company.
My immediate goal is to work every day with that in mind and have people trust me as a professional consultant to the extent they would say, “I would like to use en world’s services again.”
- Finally, do you have any advice for those looking for a job?
Know yourself and get as much information about various companies as possible before having numerous interviews. Gathering information and going to interviews will show you how many options you have and help you find the right industry.
I initially applied mainly to firms in the financial industry. However, broadening my applications to the recruitment industry led me to realize an aspect of myself: I love working in a job where I can connect with people.
I recommend staying curious when applying to companies and interviewing with many types of companies to expand your possibilities and make new discoveries.
Naturally, we sincerely welcome applications from everyone who wants to become a member of en world!
